Student World Assembly announced, after a vote from SWA’s international membership, that “Poverty” has been selected as the most pressing global issue for SWA members to address during 2008. Members will be educating themselves, through SWA’s online resources and discussion forum, on the causes and effects of global poverty, ultimately using their knowledge to take action on both a local and global level . Each year, SWA calls on its global membership to select, through an online voting system, the issue they feel members should focus on. This issue is then the focus of SWA’s Annual International Convention, which acts as the culmination of SWA’s activities by bringing students, scholars, and activists from around the world together for a series of discussions, lectures and activities. The 2008 International Convention will be held in Peshawar, Pakistan by SWA Chapter at IMSciences. However with launch of SWA - India , local members and supporters and partner organization will discuss and organize verity of events. This day members and partner will find out way to eradicate Poverty with WATER and Information Technology by young generation. Poster / Poem / Slogan and others made this day will be exhibit during International Convention in PAKISTAN.

Une procession dans les rues de Dakar pour symboliser la pauvreté à travers des catégiries sociales de jeunes , de femmes , d'associations et syndicats, afin de sensibiliser l'opinion national et international sur la pauvreté . -2.Le requiem qui était une occasion de se tenir debout et de parler haut et fort à travers un chant musical composé par une chorale suivi d'une chorte symbolisant les couches les plus vulnérable à la pauvreté.

Coordinated by the Poverty Action Network of CSOs in Ethiopia (PANE), the commemoration of the Int'l Day for the Eradication of Poverty was marked by PANE member CSOs in various parts of Addis Ababa, including Stand Up and Speak Out moments, Poverty Requeim, Video Documentary on Poverty, Poetry Recital and discussions. A total of 8,120 people took part in the Stand Up against Poverty. The pictures here are from the Stand up moment at the Ethiopian National Theatre and another at the Hall of Women In Self Employment, a member NGO of PANE.

Drama on MDG

The number provided is a block number since there were more than 150 centres countrywide participating in the event. The event took part in more than 90 primary and secondary schools in Iringa, Dar es Salaam, Moshi and Rufiji - mainly for the stand up moment. Pledges/petitions were read and signed out. The central event was a concert at Mnazi Mmoja, Dar es Salaam that was attended by a representative from a government programme implementing infrastructural and social development projects countrywide. The agreed 'Stand Up' time was officially at 18h00. However, others held their Stand Up moment on 17th October 2007 within the 24 hour deadline for standing up worldwide. To commerate the 17th October there were football matches, peaceful march and open debate in Mbezi, Mbagala and Songea, respectively.

UN Information Centre in Cairo in cooperation with UN offices in Egypt and Al-Sawy Cultural Wheel in Cairo organized a concert for the Stand Up against poverty. UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt delivered a message, UNIC Director read out the UN Secretary-General's message for the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty and UNDP Goodwill Ambassador Youssra read out the pledge to attendees.
