The Christian Church, as a religious and social institution in Liberia has overtime evolved as a key pillar of every modern society for its moral fortitude, social services and charity to mankind. The Church in Liberia has been very instrumental in mobilizing people to advocate on issues that affect the larger public.
The GCAP “Make Our Money Work For Us Campaign, Nigeria” Secretariat will be mobilizing all states and the Federal Capital Territory in Nigeria to Stand Up & Take Action Against Poverty on the 17th, 18th and 19th of October 2008.
We have mobilized all the schools in Kakamega south district to conduct a tree planting session on the 17th Oct 2008 Friday flag hosting assembly. Working various partners working together with district forester we have sufficient seedlings to conduct this activity.
Students of Nursery, Primary and Secondary schools in Four Local Government Areas of Birnin Kebbi, Argungu, Jega, Zuru including Christian religious worship centers shall commemorate 2008 Stand Up event during assembly sessions.and special church services.
Activities:
*A 15 minute lecture on the MDGs by Mr. Oluwakorede Asuni, focusing on the History of the MDGs, local accomplishments, and what we will benefit if the MDGs are achieved.
- A five minute film show depicting Poverty at its worst.
Students and Youth of Liberia are the greatest victims of poverty; they have limited access to education and their basic social needs that are cardinal to lifting them out of poverty.
Despite some progress towards achieving the MDGs in Liberia gender equality, women are still not given the same protection, rights and roles as men and are denies opportunities for employment and education. Traditional practices, attitudes, and roles, in addition to religious and economic beliefs, result in unequal power relation, which may not be recognized as discrimination.
Destiny Africa camped at the Kenya Primary Schools HeadTeachers Association (KEPSHA) Conference on October 6 – 9, 2008 at Mombasa and registered about One hundred thousand (100,000) for Stand Up and Take Action on October 17, 2008 across Kenya.
Along with the National Youth Service MDGs Club, Center for Development and Advocacy, a march would take place from Magajin Gari Secretariat of Kaduna North Local Government Council to Ahmadu Bello sensitizing people on the ever busy business neighbourhood on the MDGs and how the Federal Government is faring in reducung poverty and attaining the MDGS.
