Despite some progress towards achieving the MDGs in Liberia gender equality, women are still not given the same protection, rights and roles as men and are denies opportunities for employment and education. Traditional practices, attitudes, and roles, in addition to religious and economic beliefs, result in unequal power relation, which may not be recognized as discrimination. In developing countries like Liberia poverty is the biggest impediment to gender equality. Therefore, the STAND UP AND TAKE ACTION AGAINST POVERTY AND FOR THE MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS on October 18, 2008 will taken place in selected markets buildings which include: Rally Town, Logan Town, Duala and Water Side Markets from 7:25 to 10:30am. The Stand Up and Take Action Anti-Poverty Rally to raise their voices and remind elected leaders/ or the government to keep promises made to providing basic social services to improve their livelihood.
Women during these rally will be demanding that, their elected leaders provide opportunity where their children especially the girl child will have life kills necessary for active and effective participation in all levels of social, cultural, political and economic leadership regard to the achievement of the MDGs.
