On Sunday October 19, 2008 from 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm, join ONE, Care, and millions of individuals worldwide to Stand Up and Take Action against Poverty and to show your support for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), a roadmap to halve extreme poverty by 2015. Last year, 43.7 million people worldwide participated in this event setting a new world record for the number of people who literally stood up against poverty and for the MDGs. Birmingham has hosted Stand Up! events for the past two years and we are particularly excited about this year’s event that will feature a special screening of A Powerful Noise, an award winning film that was featured at the Tribeca Film Festival. A Powerful Noise shares the stories of three phenomenal women and how they have risen to overcome barriers to stand up and be a voice in their societies – their amazing stories truly confirm that ONE person really can make a difference!
