In line with UNIC’s efforts to garner official and public mobilization around international days and SUTA campaign in particular, I’m glad to inform you that following coordination I had with his advisors, the prime minister of Bahrain issued a statement on the occasion of the poverty eradication day. It was carried by all media in Bahrain. I’m confident MC will place it on its website among world’s leaders who shouldered the campaign.

In a statement marking the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (17 October), he urged the international community to implement all relevant international decisions in favor of the least developing countries. He called for building a global partnership aimed at increasing the momentum of economic growth, eradicating poverty and tackling weaknesses of the implementation process.
Bahrain Premier stressed the need to specify the nature of risks and challenges that poor countries would face as a result of the current financial crisis. These acute economic circumstances require the international community to take effective measures and tackle the root causes of this financial disaster, he said. Bahrain’s Premier said the global economic crisis raised the need to find new measures to protect the poor of the world as they are its biggest victims and the most affected by its repercussions. The international community, which calls for global partnership for development, has to reiterate its support for poor countries and to increase developmental aid, the Premier said. It has to honor its obligations to the war on poverty through new programmes that offer assistance to the least developing countries, he said.
