During this virtual Stand Up and Take Action 2008 Rally, Visionaries In Africa Volunteer Foundation (VIA) is appealing for global support to stop child pornography in South Africa, where children are being directly sexually abused to produce child pornography, or suffering indirect sexual abuse from exposure to pornography on public TV! South African rapists as now as young as 8yrs old!
Parents and society have a role in protection of children, but the government has allowed the gross violation of children’s rights by South African media until the Films and Publications Board (FPB) sought to amend the law to prevent further abuse of children.
VIA has been mobilising public support for this Bill for the past two years, but now the Bill awaits the signature of the SA President.
VIA’s STAND UP AND TAKE ACTION campaign is an appeal for local and global support to convince the SA President to stop child mortality (MDG 4) by stopping child pornography – possible only if the President signs off the FPB Amendment Bill!
HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT:

Youth who participated in hosting the largest gathering of children during the WSSD in 2002, will read the appeal and share a prayer for those who have lost their childhood. Then they will hand the VIA Appeal to members of the Department of Home Affairs and FPB to submit officially to the Presidency.
Chatsworth, Durban: Gather at the Chatsworth Youth Center where Kumi Naidoo of CIVICUS and GCAP will also be addressing the youth.
Here is the VIA Foundation / UN Stand Up 2008 Appeal to the South African President:
Dear Sir, we are standing up for MDG 4, to reduce child mortality in South Africa from child pornography. Please take action and sign the FPB Amendment Bill. To Save One Child is to Save All Children!
