UNRWA Schools Stand up Against Poverty
Event Goal:
500000
Date of Event:
Oct 19 2008 7:00am - 5:00pm

Location: UNRWA schools in West Bank, Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and the Palestinian Territories (West Bank and Gaza Strip).

Description: Last year, half a million Palestinian children, all refugees at UNRWA schools in the West Bank, Gaza, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan, stood up against poverty. In 2008 every UNRWA school child from ages five to eighteen will once again stand up in protest of their own poverty and the poverty of others suffering throughout the world. We have given each school the opportunity to choose the best way for them to mark this event. Children will be able to write, paint, speak, and sing out their own experiences and feelings on poverty: ‘I say no to poverty, but being poor is not shameful. We need to cooperate and help each other through charity.’ -Jameela, Tenth Grade, Shufat Girls School, West Bank
